In this two-day course, we will learn the history, chemistry, technology, and entire process involved in printing a drawing from stone. We will specifically be covering stone graining and leveling, drawing materials and how to use them, etching and the chemistry involved, press set up, and rolling up and printing the stone. There are many steps in the process of making a lithograph, all of which require attention to detail, and the final result is something magical! Each student will have an opportunity to create a drawing on a litho stone and print it.

Previous experience with printmaking necessary. All materials included in registration fees!

About the Instructor

Dan Harrison has been an active printmaker for the past twenty-one years, a California Society of Printmakers board member for four years, a studio and gallery owner for four years, and a teacher of various printmaking modalities. Dan has previously taught stone and plate lithography, intro to printmaking, advanced relief printmaking, and drawing fundamentals. He holds an MFA from MSU, Bozeman with a focus in lithography, and has seen his art exhibited across the U.S., Japan, and parts of Europe. His ability to adapt to his surroundings resembles a chameleon in nature, and his working style is that of an android. It once took him three and a half years to complete a print project consisting of 1,911 plastic bread ties glued to a plate. Most of his works are highly conceptual with the inclusion of process as part of the art. In addition to printmaking, he also creates large-scale paintings and metal sculptures and has self-published two books.
