Gel Plate Printmaking is a fairly new printmaking technique established in 2011. Gel plates are unique in their ability to produce monotype prints using acrylics and other water-soluble media, bypassing the need for a printing press and even ink.
In this class, students will learn this fast printing process, as acrylics dry quickly and layers can easily be added to an original monotype print to create patterns and shapes. Students will produce many prints and learn to use masking and stencils to produce mixed media collages. No experience necessary. All materials included in registration fees.

About the Instructor
Ruth Santee has taught printmaking for 15+ years. She currently teaches at Delta College in Stockton CA. Previously, Santee has taught at Bakersfield College, UC Davis, Saint Mary’s College and CCA. She received a BFA in painting from the College of Santa Fe and an MFA in sculpture from SFAI. Santee co-owns and directs Transmission Gallery, a fine art gallery in Oakland CA.
Franca van Allen was born and raised in Italy, where her love of Art began. The focus of her studies and her formal trainings are in psychology, philosophy, foreign languages and teaching. She taught art to school children and took a few art classes, but is mostly self taught. Her art focus is on creative compositions with mixed media. This is where she find an ideal space for self expression. She believes printmaking is key to this very fluid approach to art making that emphasizes top down creative processes and exploration in one’s art practice.

Cancellation and Refunds Policy
Verge Center for the Arts reserves the right to cancel classes, to change instructors, and to make other changes that may become necessary to ensure a quality experience for participants. In the event that a class is canceled, we will contact all registrants and offer the option of transferring to another available session, or receiving a full refund.
If a participant wishes to withdraw from a class, they must do so in writing at least seven days prior to the first class meeting to receive a full refund, less a $25 processing fee. Withdrawals occurring within seven days prior to the first class meeting will receive a refund of 50 percent of the total class fee. No refunds are given to withdrawals that occur 24 hours before the class begins. Transfers are not accepted after a class begins. Membership fees are non-refundable. Please note we are unable to issue cash refunds.
