Roma Devanbu

As an undergrad at Carnegie Mellon, Roma Devanbu set off on a six month, independent study, trip to see sites of “Art Historic Importance” around the world. As most of these destinations turned out to be sites of religious significance, Devanbu became a de facto, if accidental, pilgrim. In the 40 years since, Devanbu has come to own her pilgrims nature, seeking out temples, watts, masjids, cathedrals and roadside shrines in over 20 countries. Her art work continues to revolve, with persistence and intention, around the human impulse to adorn what we adore.

Devanbu received her BFA in Painting from Carnegie-Mellon University. Before earning her MFA in Painting at Pratt Institute she spent a transformative year of graduate study in Art and Art History at the renowned M.S. University of Baroda in India. Devanbu is a Studio Artist at Verge Center for the Arts and an active member of Axis Gallery. She will be making art in Stuttgart Germany until the end of October, 2023.
