Mathew Zefeldt: Windows

Verge Center for the Arts is pleased to present Windows, a solo exhibition by Minneapolis artist, Mathew Zefeldt. Zefeldt’s paintings are influenced by the multi-tasking nature and imagery of contemporary culture. Paintings within paintings allude to society’s preoccupation with juggling several realities at once, such as having many browser windows open on a computer desktop, or the “picture in picture” feature on televisions. With repeating objects, Zefeldt points to the speed and ease in which one can clone images with Adobe Photoshop; however, each of his handpainted objects reveal the unique flaws that are made with a human hand.
Artist Information
Mathew Zefeldt is an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Minnesota. Zefeldt received his BA in Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2009, and his MFA at the University of California, Davis in 2011. He was one of two national recipients of the Dedalus MFA Fellowship in 2011, and was included in New American Paintings #91, #97, #107 and will be included in #125. Zefeldt has had solo shows at Circuit 12 in Dallas, Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Santa Monica Museum of Art, Good Weather in Little Rock, Hap Gallery in Portland, Skinner Howard Gallery in Sacramento, Michael Rosenthal Gallery in San Francisco, and Swarm Gallery in Oakland. Zefeldt has been part of group exhibitions at Lisa Cooley in New York, Eleanor Harwood in San Francisco, MOHS in Copenhagen, and Circuit 12 in Dallas. His work has been featured in publications such as Daily Serving, Fecal Face Dot Com, Beautiful Decay, MN Artists, Installation Mag, The San Francisco Chronicle, SF Arts Quarterly and SF Art Enthusiast. Zefeldt is working on a forthcoming solo exhibition at The Soap Factory in Minneapolis.
