Shorts Program:
Guerrilla Girls: Not Ready to Make Nice (2015, 4 min)
Through a soft blend of heist film and verite, this short documentary explores the Guerrilla Girls’ recent campaign on inequality in the art world.
Guerrillas In Our Midst (Amy Harrison, 1992, 35 min)
This film takes a look behind the scenes of New York’s blue chip art market, and reveals how a contemporary art movement is “created.”
Matrix, Workshop of Women Artists (Hui Chun Chung, 2017, 33 min)
Formed in 1977 by 15 women artists, Matrix held classes, workshops, lectures and art shows. The group helped develop and support women artists at a time when the art world was dominated by men. It opened a gallery in Oak Park that relocated several times throughout the years. By the 1990s, membership had risen to more than 100. The group disbanded about 20 years ago. Photographer Hui-Chun Chung provided the impetus for the reunion by creating portraits and a documentary about Matrix artists.
