Face of a Nation: What Happened to the World’s Fair?

For generations of Americans, the World Fair has captured visions of hope for the future as part of their collective memory. Architect Mina Chow, FAIA became fascinated with the World Fairs when she saw pictures of her parents at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Beginning with their stories, Mina shares this legacy and the American values that inspired her to become an architect.

Visiting the Shanghai World Expo in 2010, Mina noted that the United States’ presence at the Fair had dwindled to almost nothing. But why? Who was responsible? Her search for answers led to the making of this film, a documentary that takes a serious, yet entertaining look, at what these events meant to us as Americans – and what their absence means to our country.

An interview and question & answer session with Ms. Chow will follow the screening.
