Join us every Tuesday and Saturday for our community clay labs! Whether you’re an experienced potter or a novice looking to start a new hobby, clay lab is the place for you. Not only do we have 10 wheel stations, 30+ handbuilding/glazing stations, 2 clay bodies and a variety of tools and glazes at your disposal, but you’ll also meet dozens of clay enthusiasts like yourself. All materials including up to 10 lbs of clay and weekly firings are included with each session, however, you are welcome to bring your own midfire clay and glazes if they are compatible with our firings. Payments are taken upon arrival and we do not take reservations. Space is limited and all stations are run on a first-come-first-served basis. Lab fees are non-negotiable and are not dependent on a project’s process.
Each week we run one cone 04 bisque fire and one cone 5 glaze fire in our electric kiln. For our safety and the safety of everyone’s projects, we do not fire items that are dangerous, extremely fragile, or thicker than 3/4in. We reserve the right to refuse the firing of any object for any reason.
Due to our limited space, we can only store ceramics for 4 weeks after they have been fired. Pieces that are left for longer than 4 weeks are considered abandoned and will be donated or thrown away. If you need more time, contact us! We will always try to store your work for longer.
Totally new to clay? No problem
We welcome everyone, no matter your experience! However, we do require prior experience or participation in one of our Introductory Wheel classes to throw on a wheel. Clay Lab is not a class so it might help to do a little research before you arrive. There are many wonderful youtube videos on different handbuilding techniques to give you the basics of pinch pots, slab and coil building. We also love resources like Ceramic Arts Network. Our staff can offer a brief tutorial to get you started and we are always happy to answer your questions.
