Collagraphs are prints made from various materials glued together on a hard surface, to create a textured composition on the printing plate. Materials such as paper, fabrics, sand, and metal, are assembled to form the printing plate. Rubbing, etching, mark making and embossing are among the techniques we will explore in making a traditional collagraph relief print. Our collagraphs will be printed with a press as well as with a gel plate and other baring tools. Alternative methods of printing without a press, made famous by Klee, Warhol, and other contemporary artists, will also be presented, to enrich and widen the perspective on printmaking. The workshop is all about the creative process, experimentation, and aesthetic exploration. Come have fun with printmaking but make sure to wear an old t-shirt or an apron. All materials are included.
