Join us for a three session introductory workshop into the world of printmaking, where students will learn how to use gel plates and acrylic paint to create colorful, multi-media monoprints! In the first session, you will cut out stencils and masks to create multiple layers, and learn one “resist” technique to transfer your shapes and designs to the gel plate. The second class will focus on the printmaking techniques and the history of collage and Pochoir (stencils) through the Matisse experience, followed by a new mark making technique. In the last session, you will learn how to use watercolor and water soluble media for print transfers. Students will be able to experiment with Yupo paper, mineral paper, and polystyrene. When dry, these prints will be embellished with pencils, pens and other media.

Creative and fun, this workshop is for seasoned 2D artists and beginners alike.

About the Teaching Artist

Born and raised in Italy, Franca’s formal training is in psychology and philosophy. She is a “mostly self-taught” artist, although she has attended classes in painting and more traditional forms of printmaking. It is through the printmaking process that she developed her most creative work. The exploratory mode of this process, and the focus on self-teaching has a very positive effect on her creativity and supports her in her practice.
