A practical and theoretical full seminar made to introduce artists of any level to the old painting techniques of a time period from the indigenous population of South America and ancient Egypt to the 15th century renaissance from Florence, Amsterdam and Nürnberg.

This two day seminar will consist of painting on templates, allowing you to gather skills from them, and eventually be able to apply them to your own painting. This seminar will also introduce you to historical pigments which will allow you to create your own painting materials. Milton will lead you through the process from start to finish, teaching you painting skills as well as techniques from past artists already lost in the time of oblivion. Milton believes learning from these past artists help us have a deeper understanding of our world and the colors within it. All required materials will be included with the registration price. You will have the option of purchasing more specialized pigments during the class but this is not required nor necessary for the completion of your piece.

About the Instructor

Milton Homann has been practicing classical drawing and pastel painting since the young age of four. As he grew up and indulged more into his passion, he deepened his knowledge further into the creation of his materials as well as intensely studied the chemistry within them. Over the years of his art career, he has been granted the opportunity to work closely with a few of his professors/well-known artists, such as Enno Lehmann and Sam Durant. As well as given the opportunity to experience an international exchange program through his academy in Sac State, where he discovered the art community Sacramento has to offer. Earning his “Diplom” in fine arts in the State Academy of Fine Arts and Design Stuttgart Germany, he has decided he’d love to share that knowledge and beauty of creating not only beautiful art pieces but material as well.

In order to create a safe and encouraging environment for creativity, we ask that all attendees comply with Verge’s non-discrimination policy which prohibits unlawful discrimination and harassment based on race, color, gender, gender identity/expression, age, physical or mental disability, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or any other consideration made unlawful by the state or local laws. We also ask that everyone contribute positively to a safe and comfortable environment for all attendees. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who does not abide by our community standards stated above.

Cancellation and Refunds Policy

Verge Center for the Arts reserves the right to cancel classes, to change instructors, and to make other changes that may become necessary to ensure a quality experience for participants. In the event that a class is canceled, we will contact all registrants and offer the option of transferring to another available session, or receiving a full refund.

If a participant wishes to withdraw from a class, they must do so in writing at least seven days prior to the first class meeting to receive a full refund, less a $25 processing fee. Withdrawals occurring within seven days prior to the first class meeting will receive a refund of 50% of the total class fee or may transfer to a class of equal or lesser value. Participants are only eligible for one transfer per registration and must get it approved by Verge staff. No refunds or transfers are given to withdrawals that occur 24 hours or less before the class begins. Membership fees are non-refundable. Please note we are unable to issue cash refunds.
