Parents and Guardians,
After extensive consideration for the health and safety of the Verge community, we have decided to switch the direction of our camps into an online experience. There is a potential that as things progress we will add on a few weeks of in-person camps at the end of the Summer but we cannot yet be certain.
We are still working out the structure and specifics.
When:
This class is from August 3-7th, 2020.
Our camp schedule will change from an all-day camp to 3-hour live sessions, in the mornings, and an “open office hour” afterward.
How:
We will be using a combination of two platforms, Zoom and Edmodo. We will send you all information about setting up accounts on those two as soon as possible. Zoom will facilitate online face-to-face interactions through an iPad or computer and will serve as a tool for instruction, demonstrations, and other engagement. Edmodo will be a platform to share tutorials, videos, alternative activities etc. so parents and kids can access them anytime.
We will make a materials pack at Verge that can be picked up by guardians. In-Store Shopping & Curbside Pickup are available at Blick Art Supplies at their Howe Ave location if you would like extra supplies.
Requirements:
- Access to an Ipad or computer
- Access to the internet
- Zoom and Edmodo accounts (both are free)
- Guardian involvement for at least the first 30 minutes-1hour
- A clean working surface to make art close to the computer
Refunds and new prices:
We understand this shift is not ideal for all children and families so we will be accepting full and partial refund requests and processing them on a case-by-case basis. If you cannot join our online camps, we hope you consider making your registration fees, or part of them, a donation to Verge.
Since our hours have changed so have our prices which will now be the following:
Verge Member — $150.00
Non-member — $180.00
Add a sibling (member) — $115.00
Add a sibling (non-member) — $140.00
ABOUT THIS CLASS:
Art, Advocacy and Activism
“The role of the Artist is to make the revolution irresistible”- Toni Cade Bambara
“Art, Advocacy, and Activism” will explore the many ways an individual can express their own advocacy and activism through mixed media visual arts. Through the use of color, composition, and line this class will help students understand the power art holds in social positive change. It will allow students to feel empowered by their own creation through the arts as well as teach and immerse students in various social justice and environmental movements of today. This class will encourage students to explore what they are passionate about, as well as encourage positive dialogue about social movements. The class will introduce contemporary and non-contemporary artists that use art making as their own extension of their activism and advocacy: artists such as Kehinde Wiley, Aaron Douglas, and Eduardo Kobra.
