In this workshop you’ll learn what a Risograph is, how it works, what makes it special, and you’ll create a collaborative zine about protecting our environment! The instructor will show you some Riso print examples, share some favorite mark making tools and illustration techniques. Then you’ll walk through a print demo using the Risograph.
We’ll focus on environmental conservation as the subject matter of our prints and use this time for creative experimentation. You’ll draw, you’ll paint, you’ll collage, you’ll stamp; we’ll talk about ways we can take care of our planet and in the end you’ll take home a beautiful Risograph zine to share with your family, friends, and community.
WHEN: September 7, 2025 1-3:30 pm

About the Instructor
LK James is an artist living in Colusa, CA. Her interest in drawing, materials, and language is expressed through the disciplines of printmaking and ceramics. Flora, fauna, and every-day objects are her main subject matter. She has instructed risograph workshops at Outlet PDX and in her own studio—this workshop was originally developed and funded for the Upstate California Creative Corps grant in 2023.
Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the San Francisco Center for the Book (CA), Tiny Town Gallery in Tuscan (AZ), Land Gallery in Portland (OR), and elsewhere. Her children’s picturebook, “The Full House and The Empty House,” is published by Chicago Review Press. She collaborates with artists Gabe Babcock and Roberta Monte James at Salmon Bend Art Studios. She studied English literature at Portland State University (2010) and received an MFA in Applied Craft + Design from Pacific Northwest College of Art (2018).
