Caiti Chan

My art practice includes materials that help facilitate the concepts of the work. Salt, isopropyl alcohol, and paint combine with a variety of approaches. Pouring, dripping, scraping, covering, waiting, revealing, observing, and wondering are all significant parts of a whole process. In the studio, I grant serendipity’s control, while allowing the need to edit. Experimentation with material collaborates with the unknown. Acknowledging materiality and the intrinsic qualities of the mediums reveal truth. The aim is to expose the realities we overlook about ourselves and our surroundings. The transformative power of materials creates a vivid remnant. Visual associations and movement of the form are relied on to create an exclusive experience. I create abstraction to invite the viewer to have a deeper conversation as I have had.
