SCREENWRITING & MOTION PICTURE ANALYSIS

A good writer can make a story interesting with particular sensibilities, but it takes channeling your voice and harnessing the craft of storytelling to make the story work on an emotional level. This course is designed to give you the tools it takes to move an audience.

In this six week course, we’ll explore the writing craft as it applies exclusively to screenwriting. All great screenplays share very specific characteristics, and together we’ll excavate those characteristics through lecture and film clips to analyze how they apply to your story. The goal of this class is to do all of the pre-writing preparation and leave you with the framework it takes to write a screenplay. Anyone with a story to tell is welcome.

Come ready to pitch story ideas!

DATES: Tuesdays, February 16th-March 23rd, 2018

TIME: 6:00pm-7:00pm

PRICE: $120 for members, $150 for non-members

About the instructor:

Richard St.Ofle teaches film and screenwriting classes at Sacramento City College. He is a graduate of Berkeley’s prestigious film and rhetoric program, and USC’s screenwriting program. His work has been featured in the Sacramento International Film Festival and you can find his movie reviews semi-occasionally in Submerge magazine. His Berkeley thesis explored Film Noir and how it mobilized post-war American xenophobia, and his own work (including a TV Pilot being developed for HBO) usually involves something terrible happening to someone really nice.
