Ever wanted to work at an art gallery but don’t know where to start? Join us to learn the basics of becoming an arts industry professional. Verge is partnering with Marcela Pardo Ariza and Kaitlin Trataris from Womxn* Art Handlers of Northern California (W*AH) to offer a two session workshop series on the basic skills of gallery preparation and art handling.
In these workshops we will go over skills ranging form how to repair walls after a show to basic power tool use and what to have in your install kit. We will also instruct in how to properly package, install and light artwork for exhibitions.
No prior skills are necessary. There is limited space so register ahead of time, priority registration is given to POC, queer, trans, non-binary, and womxn*

About the Instructors:
Marcela Pardo Ariza (b. 1991 Bogotá, Colombia) lives and works in San Francisco, CA. Ariza is the recipient of the Tosa Studio Award 2017, a Murphy & Cadogan Contemporary Art Award and a finalist for the 2017 San Francisco Artist Award. She received her BA from Earlham College, Richmond, IN in 2013 and an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) in 2016. Her work has been recently exhibited at CULT exhibitions (San Francisco, CA), Slide Space (Oakland, CA), R/SF Projects (San Francisco), Minnesota Street Project (San Francisco, CA); De:Formal Gallery (New York, NY); Alter Space (San Francisco, CA); Guerrero Gallery (San Francisco, CA) and ProArts (Oakland, CA). Ariza works in the Civic Engagement department at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and is a current member of the Curatorial Council at Southern Exposure.
Kat Trataris is a sculpture and performance artist living and working in San Francisco. She co-founded W*AH (Woman* Art Handlers) a group dedicated to the support and growth of POC, queer, non-binary, trans, and womxn* identifying individuals in the professional arts industry as preparators, art handlers, technicians, fabricators, and other industry support roles. She also co-founded R/SF projects, a curatorial laboratory and contemporary gallery in downtown San Francisco (2016-2019). Trataris received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute, and her Bachelor of Fine Art degree from San Diego State University. In 2015 she was a recipient of the Murphy and Cadogen Contemporary Art Award. Her work has been shown at CCA Hubbell Street Galleries (San Francisco, CA), Incline Gallery (San Francisco, CA), NOSPACE (Oakland, CA), Embark Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Book and Job Gallery (San Francisco, CA), and SOMArts (San Francisco, CA). Amy Greer is currently the Lead Preparator at Verge Center for the Arts and also works at institutions like the Manetti Shrem Museum and the Railroad Museum. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts from University of California, Davis and was the co-owner and founder of Milk Gallery in Sacramento (2011-2012).
Aida Lizalde is a multimedia artist based in the Delta region of California and living in Sacramento. She also graduated from University of California, Davis and has worked as a preparator/art handler at institutions like the Manetti Shrem Museum, Verge Center for the Arts, the di Rosa Contemporary Art Center, among many other galleries and institutions. She is currently the Education Manager at Verge Center for the Arts.
