Clay production is perpetually moving from a finite craft towards a pluralistic field with
increasing popularity in the context of contemporary visual culture. This expansion of the
material allows for an abundance of possibilities for visual artists that are conceptually
driven. With the erosion of material hierarchies established by institutional entities, the artists
presented in this exhibition cultivate a broad aesthetic. This is ongoing discourse, and a
method of agitating purist ideologies of clay and how they fit into the canon of contemporary
ceramics. The limitations of building methods used in utilitarian objects, and the desire
to navigate sculpture through a ceramic lens is tempting. “No End in Sight,” is a crossdisciplinary inquiry into contemporary clay, and its relationship with developing works that
reconcile intertwined individual biographies, memories and environmental impact.
