Daniel Alejandro Trejo

Daniel Alejandro Trejo is a Latinx visual artist working in ceramic sculpture. Trejo’s work acts as an exploration of concepts related to absence and fragility through an emphasis on volume and color, while also considering density and mass. Viewers project any subconscious emotions, attitudes, or motivations through the ambiguous forms of the sculptures. The tolerance for ambiguity is challenged; similar to the awkward and uncomfortable questions, and preconceived notions of queer individuals that are asked by those who abide by heteronormative/binary constructs. Being too visible or too ambiguous can jeopardize existence in its entirety, and enact violence that is physical and emotional resulting in abject gossip, slander, and perception of “the other” enabling abandonment or rejection.
