Susan Silvester

Susan J. Silvester is an interdisciplinary artist who is originally from the New York City area, before presently making her home in Sacramento, Ca. Her prior work experiences of working on TV shows and sculpting prototype toys has influenced her current artwork. Her art practice includes working with digital media, painting, drawing, sculpture, encaustics, and altered photography.

While living in New York City, Susan fabricated art pieces for Robert Rauschenberg, Tom Wesselman, Marisol, and Lynda Benglis. During this time, she also worked on many TV commercials and several shows. Examples were The P illsbury dough boy, Twizzlers candy, Teddy Graham cookies, P ee Wee’s Pl ayhouse, Santa and the Snowmen (a computed animated TV and IMAX movie), and the retired Back to th e Future ride at Universal Studio. In addition, she sculpted prototype toys for Burger King and for Texas Instrument’s educational division creating Disney and Warner Brother characters based electronic toys. Susan also worked as a digital artist, originally as an animator on the PC game R ise of the Triad, and later as a designer of websites, such as The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame an d vvmf.org, a site dedicated to vietnam veterans.

All this work experience adds to an active imagination which can be seen in the unique vision for her artwork.
